The Experience

You've been watching scenes
like this your whole life.

In Pride and Prejudice. In Anna Karenina.
Candlelit ballrooms. Elegant music. Couples moving as if it all just works.

And then there's real life: loud bars, dating apps, conversations that go nowhere.

This is your chance to step out of it — stop being a spectator and become one of the dancers.

What makes this different
  • You arrive and recognize faces — people you've already danced with at rehearsals
  • The music starts, and the steps come naturally — because you already know them
  • Someone extends a hand and you don't hesitate
  • You move through the evening with ease, and just enough elegance to surprise yourself

Who This Is For

You don't have to be a dancer.
You just have to be curious.

The Spring Ball was designed for people who've always loved the idea of this kind of evening — but assumed it wasn't for them. It is.

The Curious Newcomer

You've never danced ballroom in your life. That's the entire point. Everything is taught from scratch, and the community is welcoming from the very first rehearsal.

🧭

The Solo Attendee

No partner, no problem. Most people come alone. Partner rotation means you'll know people before the night even begins.

🎭

The Period Drama Fan

You've watched Bridgerton, Pride & Prejudice, or any number of historical films and thought — what would that feel like? Now you can find out.

🌱

The Social Seeker

You want to meet interesting people in an intentional setting — not a bar, not an app. The Ball provides exactly that: structure, elegance, and genuine human connection.

💫

The Experience Collector

You live for experiences that are genuinely different — things you can't quite explain to people who weren't there. This is one of those.

🎀

The Dresser-Up

You've been waiting for a reason to wear something truly special. The Spring Ball isn't just an excuse — it's practically a requirement.

The only thing between you
and this night is one decision.

No experience required. No partner required. Just you, deciding to do something genuinely memorable.

Registration closes April 14

Common Questions

Everything you're wondering.

Anything else? Reach out on Instagram.

What should I wear?+
Costumes are required — attire is part of what creates the immersive atmosphere of the Ball. We encourage romantic, spring-inspired, historical, or fantasy styles. Detailed inspiration is available on our Instagram at @nocturnegala.
Do I need to know how to dance?+
Not at all. No prior experience is required. Everything is taught during rehearsals, step by step. The event is designed so that complete beginners feel confident and fully part of the evening.
Do I need to bring a partner?+
No partner needed. You can attend on your own or with someone. Partner rotation ensures everyone participates and connects with multiple people. Many attendees come solo — it's one of the best parts of the event.
When are the rehearsals, and what if I can't attend all of them?+
Rehearsals take place on April 14, 21, 28 and May 5 — every Tuesday at 7:30 PM at Taylor Park Elementary, Burnaby. You don't need to attend every session. Video tutorials are provided for each dance so you can catch up on any rehearsals you miss.
What are Leaders and Followers?+
  • Leaders (traditionally the "gentleman's part") guide direction, timing, and figures through clear, caring connection.
  • Followers (traditionally the "lady's part") receive and shape the movement, responding to the lead while bringing their own musicality and expression.

Roles are open to all genders. Choose the one that feels most natural — neither is more advanced.

Which dances will be at the Ball?+
  • Group dances: Hole in the Wall, Polka for Three, Upon a Summer's Day
  • Couple dances: Waltz, Figure Waltz
  • Ceremonial: Polonaise
  • Rotational partner dances: Menuet, Spanish Waltz, Cotillon
Is this a dating event?+
The Spring Ball is primarily a social and cultural experience. That said, it naturally creates opportunities to meet like-minded people in a comfortable, structured setting. If you're attending solo and open to meeting others, you'll receive a flower pin to make introductions more natural.
What is the age restriction?+
This is an 18+ event.
I'm interested as a Follower — can I still join?+
Follower spots are currently waitlisted. Join the waitlist here and you'll be notified if spots open. Leader and Couples tickets are still available and filling quickly.
